MANILA — A 17-year-old girl was confirmed dead in a landslide in the early hours of Sunday, while a 26-year-old woman also died after she was pinned by a concrete wall that collapsed in Cebu City in the central Philippines on Sunday, local authorities said.
Authorities said the rain-induced landslide also affected at least nine families whose houses were damaged. The villagers, including the victim, were asleep when the landslide hit.
There were no further reports of anybody missing in the landslide that occurred around 3 a.m. local time.
Authorities also reported that a 26-year-old woman died in another village when a wall collapsed due to heavy rains around 11:20 a.m. local time Sunday.
The accident also injured three children and a 23-year-old female, affecting four families of 15 people.
Authorities evacuated villagers to a safer place as the city continued to experience heavy rainfall due to a tropical depression affecting the country.
The state weather bureau said the tropical depression is affecting the central Philippine provinces and other parts of the country, warning of heavy rainfall in many areas.
