Iraqi militant group claims drone, missile attacks on Israeli targets

BAGHDAD — The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, a Shiite militia group, on Friday claimed responsibility for several drone and missile attacks on Israeli targets.

The group said in separate statements that its fighters fired at dawn an al-Arqab upgraded cruise missile at a vital Israeli site in the “occupied (Palestinian) territories” and launched two drone attacks on two other sites in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

The statements did not provide further details about the attacked sites or report any casualties.

Since the onset of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the Gaza Strip on Oct. 7, 2023, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq has executed numerous attacks on Israeli and U.S. targets in the region to support Palestinians in Gaza. The group escalated its attacks on Israel following the recent flare-up between Israel and Hezbollah.
